Sealants are a preventative dental treatment, where a plastic is used to fill in the grooves and chewing surfaces of teeth, typically molars. They are a conservative treatment used to prevent dental decay from ever occurring, and to further prevent more invasive dental treatment from being needed. They are typically placed as soon as the molars are fully erupted in children.
